A city with fame and glory is rising up – Nan’an

For centuries, the city of Nan’an, as a center of politics, economics and culture in the Minnan region (Southeast Fujian Province) played a crucial role. As one of the starting points of the original Maritime Silk Road in ancient China, the territory of Nan’an has witnessed the transformation of the Silk Road from a thriving trade route to the basis of today’s “The Belt and Road Initiative”.

Nan’an is located west of Quanzhou, north of Xiamen, currently covers an area of 2,036 square km, it encompasses 2 provincial development zones, 3 highways, and 23 towns, and 1.6 million people live here.

Jiuri Mountain

THe graves on the cliff on Jiuri Mountain stand as proof of the city’s past role in the establishment of the ancient Maritime Silk Road. It is proof of oceanic transport in ancient China. The Mountain is now listed as a protected national key cultural site.

Ancient Dwelling of the Cai Family

The ancient dwelling of the Cai Family is a cultural treasure. Its vast scale, mathematical layout, livable spaces, magnificant decoration, timeless inscriptions, wise family mottos, and excellent craftsmanship all come together to create a top example of Minnan-style architechure. It is listed as a national cultural relic, and is known as the Small Minnan(S. Fujian) Imperial Palace, and the Grand View Garden of Minnan-style architecture.

Wuli Bridge

It is the longest beam-style stone bridge of the middle ages. It is the oldest extant stone bridge in China. For a long time, it was said ” there is no bridge longer than this in the World”. It is a protected national key culture relic. It is commonly known by its length as Wuli Bridge.
