Google Android 10 new Safety feature: alert Charging port overheating

Google has added a new safety feature in its new Android 10 operating system that will alert users the moment the charging port overheats while charging the battery of the phone. Google has also added a new feature that will alert users if the charging port is wet or if there is some dirty or debris inside the port. These new features are part of Usability Enhancement in Android 10. These features are expected to be available in all phones running Android 10.

Developers at XDA tested the feature out and has mentioned the critical temperature to be around 60 degree Celsius while at 65 degrees, its an emergency. Meanwhile, there is an option to manually enable the port in case there’s a false alert of dirt inside the port. Both the features are aimed at minimising the risk electrocution and battery explosions.

The final version of Android 10 is reaching all the Google Pixel smartphone users first. The list includes all the Pixel devices – Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2XL, Pixel 3a, Pixel 3aXL, Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL. The OS version will reach other smartphones as well.

“Android 10 begins rolling out to Pixel phones today, and we’re working with our partners to launch and upgrade devices to Android 10 this year,” said Android’s vice president of engineering, Dave Burke in the official blog post.

It is worth adding that soon after the Android 10 rollout announcement, Essential announced the stable build coming to its Essential Phone followed by Xiaomi, which brought Android 10-based MIUI to Redmi K20 Pro. However, OnePlus has announced its first Android 10 Open Beta for OnePlus 7 smartphone users while HMD Nokia is yet to make an announcement. HMD has however, already announced the Android 10 rollout time frame for its smartphones.
