Among all local bands, the Wynners hold a record number of shows at the Hong Kong Coliseum. The Wynners’ concert in Hong Kong in August had a series of seven shows, with each packed with loyal fans and prominent figures in the city. The group gave their best efforts in spite of their age, and their performance was well received by the audience.
Consisting of Alan Tam (lead vocals), Kenny Bee (lead vocals), Bennett Pang (lead guitar), Danny Yip (bass), and Anthony Chan (drums), the Wynners undoubtedly bring fond memories to Hong Kongers. It was an era of English pop in the early 70s, so the group sang exclusively in English, mainly covers of popular songs from other parts of the world, such as “L-O-V-E Love” and “Sha La La La”. Soon became a teen idol group, the Wynners also released a number of Cantonese songs with lyrics in a light-hearted, colloquial style.
In the mid-70s, the Wynners were active in Hong Kong, Mainland China and Taiwan, and went on to gain fame in Southeast Asia and around the world. Besides the success in music, the group also participated in TV shows and films. Later, members of the group went their separate ways to develop their solo careers. The Wynners reunited on stage once a in a while to meet their fans.
In celebration of their 50th anniversary, the Wynners announced their last concert tour, which kicked off in Hong Kong in August, continuing to Macao, Kuala Lumpur and now at Penchanga. All fans and concert goers must not miss out this memorable moment!
