OCMCO 2025 | As fiery as summer, as poetic as song: Global Chinese media leaders conclude deeply moving cultural journey through Hunan

(U.S. Commerce News) From August 25 to 30, the 15th Annual Conference of the Overseas Chinese Media Cooperation Organization (OCMCO) was successfully held in Hunan Province, China. Co-hosted by the Publicity Department of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, Hong Kong Ta Kung Wen Wei Media Group, and the Overseas Chinese Media Cooperation Organization, the event brought together 84 senior media representatives from 84 Chinese-language outlets across 37 countries and regions on five continents.

Over the course of five days and four nights, these media professionals embarked on a cultural journey that was as grounded as it was touching — from the bustling innovation hubs of Changsha, to the storied banks of Dongting Lake in Yueyang, and finally to the breathtaking peaks of Zhangjiajie. Along the way, they witnessed the pulse of China’s modernization, the charm of its ancient traditions, and the deep emotional resonance of the Hunan spirit.

This was more than a reporting mission. It was a heartfelt dialogue between civilizations, a symphony of culture, and a shared resonance of ideals. On this red land rich in both history and innovation, the world’s Chinese-language media practitioners came together to write a new chapter in the ongoing story of China — and to amplify its voice across the globe.

Changsha: A City of Innovation, A Land of Aspiration

The event officially kicked off on August 26 in Changsha — a city where history meets innovation, and tradition blends seamlessly with technology. Delegates visited university entrepreneurship parks, high-tech industrial zones, and the National Supercomputing Center, gaining firsthand experience of Hunan’s rapidly rising role as a major innovation hub in central China.

Yueyang: Echoes of the Past, Reflections of Today

From August 28 to 29, some delegates traveled to Yueyang, where they climbed the historic Yueyang Tower, recited the timeless prose of “Memorial to Yueyang Tower”, and reflected on the enduring spirit of public service captured in the line “Worry before the people worry, rejoice after the people rejoice.” At the newly built Giant Panda Pavilion, they were greeted with unexpected delight.

“See you next time.”

“再见。”

“Arrivederci.”

“Vi ses igen.”

“또 만나요.”

“またね。”

Some lingered in silence, unwilling to leave. Others looked back again and again — at the silhouette of the final mountain, the glimmer of the last street, the tenderness of the morning light. That glance backward was a reluctant farewell; the step forward, a purposeful beginning.

This was not the end — it was the start of a greater journey. The emotions and insights gathered in Hunan now fill their suitcases, not just as memories, but as missions — to share these stories with the world.

Every heartfelt farewell was a vow from Chinese-language media leaders around the globe — a shared promise:

“We will keep telling China’s story — louder, clearer, and more credibly than ever before.”

Goodbye, Hunan. Let the mountains bear witness, let the words carry our bond. Let our friendships endure.
