Enterprise Expands into Singapore for Art and Cultural Business Opportunities

After the end of the COVID-19 pandemic in Singapore, its economy has stood out as a shining star in Asia, with increasing economic strength. Some economists believe that Singapore may replace Hong Kong as the world’s financial center. Kwun Kin Sang, who has been deeply involved in the media industry in Macau for over 20 years and founded newspapers such as “Jiebao” and “Asia Economic Report,” as well as being a founder of multiple companies, recently established a new company called Minervan International in Singapore. The company aims to develop projects in the fields of art, culture, and other related activities, hoping to ride the wave of Singapore’s rapidly growing economy.

Kwun Kin Sang stated that Singapore is the most developed economy in Asia and has maintained friendly relations with China for many years. For Chinese companies and cultural exchanges, Singapore serves as an important starting point for expanding overseas. He said, “I have great confidence in the Singapore market. There is not much difference in culture and language between Singapore and mainland China. Chinese people do not face any language barriers when they come to Singapore. Therefore, many Chinese companies consider Singapore as the most ideal country for overseas development.” Kwun Kin Sang added, “Our company has a strong network of government and business connections in Singapore and Malaysia, which will facilitate our establishment. We will focus on cultural projects and play a role in ‘bringing in’ and ‘taking out,’ creating economic benefits through various cultural initiatives.”

Lyu Yurong, who immigrated to Singapore from the United States ten years ago and is now a permanent resident, has witnessed Singapore’s development during this period. “Singapore’s Chinese and overseas Chinese population, along with Chinese laborers, account for over 70% of the total population in Singapore. There are rich Chinese elements in Chinatown, and during Chinese festivals and holidays, the local people and overseas Chinese celebrate in traditional Chinese ways. Therefore, Singapore is highly representative in inheriting Chinese culture,” she explained. During the Chinese New Year period, there are nearly two months of celebrations, including the “River Hongbao” Spring Festival event and various intangible cultural heritage products from China. Many Chinese brands have opened chain stores in Singapore, as manufacturing companies from China have entered the Singaporean market.

Lyu Yurong said, “Major domestic brands have set up factories and attracted numerous foreign investments in Singapore. The financial policies are also very attractive. With these foundations, I believe it will attract more interactions between Chinese and Singaporean companies. Especially on December 7, the day Minervan International was established, it was announced that China and Singapore would grant each other a 30-day visa exemption. I believe this will bring significant business opportunities in various aspects. We have resources in artists and musicians, which can promote interactions between cultural workers from both countries. For example, we can bring musicians and calligraphy and painting artists to Singapore for exhibitions and touring. Showcasing various intangible cultural heritage projects helps people understand the value of traditional culture through distinctive elements, while also adapting to contemporary cultural changes. Through the process of showcasing artistic performances, we can engage in secondary creations, gather ideas, and present new programs in diverse ways. We also hope to create opportunities for dedicated artists in the field of art to have a better and larger stage, improving the quality of people’s spiritual lives.”

Mou Guoji, from California, United States, stated, “As a media professional who has worked in the media industry overseas for over 15 years and grew up in China, I have always had an inexplicable affection for Chinese culture. By chance, I also entered the media industry and accumulated some media resources over the years. The establishment of Minervan International is aimed at promoting Chinese culture to the world.”

Mou Guoji expressed his outlook for the future of the company, saying, “I am more hopeful that we can make good use of our existing media resources and maintain good relationships with the government. We can actively promote Chinese culture to various parts of the world, especially ASEAN countries such as Singapore and Malaysia. I firmly believe that our company will achieve good results in this aspect.”
